What’s with Havaianas?

October 10, 2007

I heard that Havaianas slippers are expensive, it is very expensive that it’s 30 times more expensive than a normal rubber slippers. So I made thoughts about it on what it looks like, the materials used and the unique design of it. Sometimes, I check on the slippers that I liked and looked for the brand but from all the slippers I checked, none of them are havaianas.

Today, my girlfriend told me that her father bought her a pair of havaianas slippers. I immediately ask her to let me see the famous havaianas. I got a little excited and tried to look around because it might have been placed somewhere. She smile at me and told me that she is wearing it right now. To my surpise, all I can see is just a pair of rubber slippers. A pair of slippers that I usually saw in street markets that usually cost 20 to 30 philippine pesos (less than a dollar).

What’s with Havaianas? Why are so many people spend so much money for a normal rubber slippers? I really don’t understand it. I searched the web to look for more information and I came to reach Dine Racoma’s Blog saying how comfortable the slippers is. I also found out that lots of people collecting that slippers as a hobby (that’s gonna cost alot!!).  Now that is surprising!! I never thought that collecting rubber slippers can be fun for others.

Still I’m not convince what most people say, I wanna try it on. So I ask my girlfriend to let me try wearing her slippers. It looks so easy to ask but it’s really harder than I thought and here’s our conversation goes:

Me: What’s with that slippers? let me try it…
my greedy girlfriend: No, it won’t fit..
Me: Oh come’on! it’s not like I’m gonna use it… I just wanna try it.
my greedy girlfriend: No! you might break it…
Me: Break it? I thought that slippers are expensive? That means HIGH QUALITY…
my greedy girlfriend: Your feet is too big!
Me: Bah! I give up… emoticon

She is older than me and still acts like a child. hahaha! Like a little kid that don’t want to lend me her little toy. Anyway, I don’t want to bully her that time because she is having a great time with her slippers. But still I want to know, What’s with Havaianas???

  4. ummm..my pair of havaianas are comfortable, yes. but very impractical. it’s too expensive and i’m afraid i might destroy it. I have a Sandugo too, i used them in every climb, and they are very very durable , it’s kinda expensive, but it’s very worth it. :)
